Seniors 2nd Qualifier

27 seniors played in mostly sunny conditions apart from a heavy shower. The course played very well with testing wind conditions. Howard Griffiths was the winner.
We welcomed Jim Gordon back who managed a creditable 15 holes and also new member Peter Cheetham who has joined Cheadle recently from Didsbury.
Next Thursday we are away at Avro thus there will be a Seniors roll up on the Wednesday.

Congratulations to David Conway winner of the Men’s 2012 Jubilee Bowl Competition on Saturday 12th May. The course was difficult to play and David shot a fantastic 37 points.

Sunday Mixed Competition

Yesterday, Sunday 13th May, the first mixed competition of this year took place. The weather was kind, and as usual, it was a great competition enjoyed by everyone.

Congratulations to the winning team in the Texas Scramble competition, Mr Captain Don Milligan, Lady Captain Carol Roberts, Mick Holmes and continuing her successful run of wins from last year Pam Ellison.

It was good to see so many members playing in the competition and to see everyone enjoying food and drink in the sunshine together on the patio afterwards.

The next mixed competition, a goulash, is on Sunday 10th June, sign up on the time sheet on the Mixed Noticeboard.

Seniors Charity

Wednesday 9th May saw 42 members and friends take part in the Alzheimers Society charity day which raised £400.
The winners of the comp were John Ratledge and Neil Todd.

Neil Todd got a hole in one at the 5th drinks all round, the cheers could be heard in Pike Fold!!!!.

Amanda Pluck from the society came along to give a talk about where the funding would be used.
It was nice to see several new members and visitors from local courses. Thank you to Mary and staff for looking after everyone who enjoyed not only the golf but everything about Cheadle Golf Club I have had many messages of thanks from members and visitors.
Next event is the 2nd qualifier on Wednesday 16th May.

IT/ Bar card system and Free WI/Fi for members

We have now completed the first stage of our IT renewal with a new computer for the secretary and the wiring and system support in place to support an epos till which in turn will support a bar card system for members. Now this has been completed we are in a position to start the implementation of the bar card system.

As an added benefit to members and guests we have made a wi/fi connection to the internet available with coverage in the lounge and most of the downstairs. If you ask at the bar or speak to Vera, Judith or myself you will be given the password. There is a seperate wi/fi network available for use in the Committee room, particularly for external hires, again full instructions and passwords can be obtained from Vera, Judith or myself.

Wednesday 2nd of May was the date for the away match with Hazel Grove everyone arrived on time before the 9am staggered start from 4 different tees last ones teeing off at 9.20am. The weather was sunny the course was in good condition with slightly slower greens than Cheadle. The result was a 5 1/2 – 4 1/2 for Cheadle.

Next week is a charity comp for The Alzheimer’s Society thank you to all who are playing and have donated prizes. Our next match is against Avro on the 30th May.

St George’s Night

Well done to all involved with the organising of a great night.

Mr Capt and Lady Capt entered into the spirit of the evening turning up in red, white and blue, the Vice Squad, Mr & Mrs Sandford also wore red, white and blue as did many others,

Mr Vice was wearing Lay Vice’s St George’s shower cap? We had a plentiful carvery that was enjoyed by all. We were entertained by the best singing from West of Micker Brook? We also found a star by the name of Simmone she certainly brought the house down with her marvelous voice. It was encouraging to see new faces who hopefully will tell their friends what they missed.
These functions are put on for the members and friend’s to enjoy, it is a way of making a little profit for the club for a reasonable price.
Don’t forget the function room can be hired for any event there is also a meeting room which also can be hired.
